Professional Pool Maintenance Service

Brushing

To effectively remove algae and other harmful microbes, you can brush the pool's walls and floors, especially in hard to reach areas such as the back of the steps and behind the pool ladders.

Skimming

Skimming is much easier than vacuuming, and all you have to do is clean the surface of the pool. You have to make sure that you skim the pool's surface regularly to avoid debris from reaching the pool floor and possibly clog the pool filters.

Vacuuming

You can choose to manually vacuum your pool or you can invest in an automatic pool cleaner. You can vacuum your pool at least once or twice a week.

Water Chemistry

To keep your pool water in pristine condition, you need to make sure that the water chemistry is balanced and at optimum levels, especially in alkalinity and pH levels. The water alkalinity should range from 100 to 150 ppm.

Pool Water Circulation

Water circulation is probably one of the most important things that you will need to maintain. In terms of safe and clean pool water, water circulation plays a vital role.

You will be able to achieve proper water circulation if your filters are working properly and the water chemistry is well-maintained and checked regularly. The chemicals should be distributed evenly in the water.

This is extremely important especially when you are dealing with algae prevention. Aside from algae, other harmful microbes also build up in your pool. Algae spread easily during the summer season or hot weather.

That is why it is essential to have good water circulation to prevent the buildup of algae and other harmful microbes. Also, cleaning your pump basket as well as skimmers regularly will help in algae buildup as well as prevent debris from clogging the filter.

If you want to have the best pool circulation, the best option is to run your pump and filter at least 8 to 12 hours a day during summer, and during the winter at least 4 to 6 hours a day. To achieve the best results, make sure that your jets are positioned diagonally and set them at the 7 o’clock or 8 o’clock position.

Now, if your pool only has one jet, what you can do is to point the jet to the opposite side of the skimmer and point it downwards. This is to ensure that the water on the bottom of the pool will circulate and eventually go to the surface of the pool.

How To Clean A Cartridge Filter

The most efficient way of saving a lot of time and money is by cleaning your pool filters so that you do not have to buy a new one. Overall, there are three types of filters such as sand filters, cartridge filters, and D.E. filters.

The most common types of water filters that are being used in swimming pools are sand filters and cartridge filters. First, we will discuss how you will be able to maintain and clean cartridge filters.

If the filter is in good condition, it will only take you approximately 30 minutes to clean the cartridge filters. It is extremely important to check the pressure gauge first before you start cleaning them. If your cartridge filter needs cleaning, it will show you a reading of 8 to 12 psi.

The first thing that you need to do is to make sure that your pool’s filtration system is turned off. This will prevent damage to the filtration system and it will also avoid possible water contamination.

You also have to make sure that the automatic setting of the water filtration system is turned off. You have to ensure that both settings are completely turned off during the entire cleaning process.

The next thing that you will need to do is to check if there is trapped air in the filter and to remove excess air, simply turn the air valve slowly. If the air has been completely removed, redirect your attention to the tension clamps and unlock them.

The tension clamps hold the filter in place. The model of the locking mechanism of your filter might look different from others, but if you are not sure on how to release the tension clamps, I would suggest that you refer to the user manual included in the package of the unit just to make sure that you are removing them properly and to avoid possible damage to the filter and clamps.

Once you have successfully removed the tension clamps, make sure that you set them aside and reinstall them later. Carefully remove the cartridge filter and start checking for visible damages such as cracks or tears.

If you see that there is a need to replace your cartridge filter, then do so, especially if you see large cracks or tears. On the other hand, if you do not see any cracks or tears then you can start cleaning your filter.

Keep in mind that if your cartridge filter is heavily damaged, replace it with a new one right away. A damaged filter will no longer be effective in filtering the water.

To start cleaning your cartridge filter, you will need to use a pressurized water hose. The powerful pressure of a water hose will help remove dirt, debris, and other materials away from the cartridge filter.

Make sure that you start cleaning the top part of the filter first and then move your way gradually down to the bottom part of the cartridge filter.

You have to make sure that you clean the space in between the pleats of the filter. If you have a cartridge cleaning tool, you can also use that to effectively clean the filter.

You might find that at times, the cartridge filter is filled with oil and other chemicals. What you can do is to soak the cartridge filter into a filter cleaner and let it soak for a few minutes for the best results.

Dishwashing liquid is also good for cleaning your cartridge filter from oils. You will need to make sure that you rinse the cartridge filter properly before you reinstall the cartridge filter.

When you are about to reinstall the cartridge filter, make sure to apply a silicone-based lubricant to the O-ring. This will help extend the lifespan of the O-ring. The next thing that you would need to do is to reinstall the cartridge filter and secure the tank lid.

Make sure to do a recheck if everything is in place. Turn on the filtration system and always keep the air valve open to release excess air inside the tank.

The next thing that you would need to do is to check the pressure gauge. It should show a normal reading of 10 to 15 psi. If not, then you will have to turn off the power, remove the locking mechanism again and recheck if you have placed the filter properly.

Once everything is in place, turn the filtration system and recheck. Make sure that you have a reading of 10 to 15 psi. This will tell you that your filter is clean.

How To Clean A Sand Filter

Sand filters are easy to clean and many homeowners prefer sand filters rather than cartridge filters because they are very easy to maintain and not to mention that sand filters are affordable.

It is crucial to check your sand filters regularly to make sure that the water in your pool is clean and in good condition. You can clean sand filters by yourself.

Just like cleaning cartridge filters, the first thing that you will need to check is the pressure gauge. This will tell you if your sand filter needs cleaning. If the reading shows 10 to 15 psi, then you do not need to clean the filter yet.

However, if the reading shows 20 to 25 psi, then you will need to clean your sand filter with a process called backwashing.

Another way to determine if the sand filter needs cleaning is if the pool water is cloudy. Backwashing will help reserve the water back to the sand through a hose to eliminate debris.

Make sure that the pool and pump power is completely turned off before starting the backwashing procedure. The next thing that you would need to do is to check the valve options.

There are different options and this includes rinse, recirculate, backwash, and closed. You will need to set the lever on the backwash setting. This time, you will have to turn the power on and run the pump for at least 3 minutes and turn the power off again.

Make sure that the sand has settled and the next thing that you are going to do is to switch the valve to the rinse setting and turn the power on and wait for another 3 minutes.

Next, you will have to select the waste setting and turn on the power for 3 minutes. The waste settings can also help reduce the amount of water in your swimming pool and this would be helpful if you would like to vacuum or clean the floor of the pool.

You can also use the waste setting if you want to flush the water out and prevent the water from recirculating back into the pool. The flush setting can be used to drain water from the pool. The next step is to clean the pump basket to make sure that there is no debris present to prevent clogging.
